Can I get a witness?

Jesus' summons to his followers to "be [his] witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth” (Acts 1:8) is easier to obey than I thought.

Witnesses don't have to fabricate or embellish. All they have to do is point point to something they've seen and say: "Yes, it really happened that way. Look! There it is. You can see for yourself."

And what have we witnessed? What are we pointing to? Peter's first speech after Jesus rose to heaven sums it up well:

"Seeing what was to come, [King David] spoke of the resurrection of the Expected Deliverer (Messiah), that he was not abandoned to the realm of the dead, nor did his body see decay. God has raised this Jesus to life, and we are all witnesses of it. Exalted to the right hand of God, he has received from the Father the promised Holy Spirit and has poured out what you now see and hear." (Acts 2:31-33)

God said a rescuer was coming. He came. He died. He rose. He went back to his Father. He's in control of everything, including death, and he invites all people to experience the power of his Holy Spirit.
